what does PermormaGlobal do?
PerformaGlobal allows investment managers to meet all the compliance requirements defined by GIPS and CVGs in an intuitive and streamlined manner. It facilitates the creation and maintenance of composites using a highly effective and flexible business rule engine. In addition, a full audit trail is active within the system which tracks any changes made whether by manual intervention or through any of the numerous file imports.
what operating system does it work on?
PerformaGlobal runs under Windows XP, Window 2000, Windows NT and Windows 98. Intranet based modules operate under both Window 2000 Server and Windows 2003 Server.
what database does it require?
The system currently uses a Microsoft SQL Server database (2000 and upwards).
can it work on the internet?
The core application is PC based, but a number of modules within the application are also available for Intranet deployment (E.g. the Intranet Reporting Module). Additionally, reports can be generated within the PerformaGlobal application that can be published to a company Intranet or company Internet.
how flexible is the system?
PerformaGlobal has been specifically designed to be as flexible and user definable as possible. This enables the system to be implemented and running at client sites within days rather than weeks or months.
how many upgrades do you provide each year?
Currently, upgrades are released to our clients every six months.
does it only provide composite maintenance?
Although Composite Maintenance is a predominant feature of the system, its flexibility allows it to extend into other areas of investment management. Modules are regularly added to the system that enable users to produce management reporting, client reporting, performance figures and so on.
what format are reports produced in?
All report templates are provided in Microsoft Excel format. However, they can be saved in HTML, Adobe PDF, CSV or Excel format.
how many users does the system support?
The system can accommodate up to 250 simultaneous users. The fixed annual license fee does not restrict you to a specific number of users, and additional users can be added on-line as you require.
what is the average number of licenses per account?
Performa does not charge on a “per user” basis. Our view (and we encourage this) is that the product can be used throughout the organisation up to the CEO, however we recognise that the majority of these people are not real "users" of the system. As such, the average number of licenses per client is difficult to quantify, but we do have a number of clients with more than 50 users.
how do I load data into the system?
Data can be loaded into performaglobal using the suite of File Imports. The File Imports are broken down into 3 areas; Static Data, Time Series Data and Standard Provider Data.
The Static Data area provides a number of imports that ensures a rapid system implementation.
The Time Series Data imports are used on a monthly basis to load market data.
The Standard Provider imports allow the user to directly import files from Data Provider Companies, such as MSCI, without any need to reformat or manipulate the Providers files.
how many portfolios can I store in the system?
The system can store any number of funds. There is no restriction on this number. Our largest live client has over 35,000 portfolios.
how many composites can I store in the system?
The system can store any number of composites. There is no restriction on this number. Our largest live client has approximately 2,000 composites.
which performance and ex-post risk statistics does your system support?
The system calculates a range of risk measures. Risk measures can be calculated using either an arithmetic or geometric approach and can use standard returns or log-normal returns. For portfolios and composites, the list includes Alpha, Beta, Correlation, Covariance, Information Ratio, Sharpe Ratio, Standard Deviation, Tracking Error, Treynor Ratio, Variance and Volatility. For composites, the list also includes asset weighted and equal weighted dispersion (standard deviation) as well as range, decile, quartile and dollar dispersion.

do data changes get tracked?
All changes within the system are tracked by the audit trail. If a user changes a piece of information, they will be asked to provide a reason as to why they are changing the information, before it is saved to the database. This reason will then be added to the audit trail - along with the user-id and a "time and date stamp".
is it multi-lingual?
The system itself is currently available in English only. However, reports can be generated to be output in a number of European languages.
is there a help system?
Yes. A fully functional and fully descriptive help environment is available from within performaglobal.
do I have to calculate my benchmarks outside the system?
No. The system has an in-built Benchmark Calculator that works with a number of different benchmark variations, including hybrid benchmarks, composite benchmarks and universe medians.
how do I load benchmark weights?
Benchmark weights can be loaded through the import screen using the straightforward Benchmark Constituents file import.
what is a composite?
A composite represents an aggregation of a number of portfolios into a single group that represents a particular investment objective or strategy. The composite return is the asset-weighted average of the performance results of all the portfolios in the composite. Creating meaningful, asset-weighted composites is critical to the fair presentation, consistency and comparability of results over time between firms.
do you provide assistance with creating GIPS composites?
We have extensive experience in determining key business decisions that need to be considered before composites are created. This includes the liaison with key marketing staff to establish what pre-requisites should be in place to compete fairly in the institutional market. In addition, Performa have, through the provision of customised project documentation, included key guidelines to meet composite construction and all required disclosures.
